CFP Board Names Education Chair

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards announced it has named Kacy Gott as chair of its Council on Education.

In this new roll, Gott will advise CFP Board staff on the development and implementation of the organization's education program and policies.

"Our education requirements are the bedrock of the CFP designation and Kacy will be instrumental in advancing our education program as part of our effort to have financial planning recognized by the public as a distinct profession," said CFP Board CEO Kevin R. Keller.

Currently, Gott serves as the chief planning officer and a principal at wealth management firm Aspiriant, with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Gott is also an instructor at Golden Gate University and a frequent contributor to The San Francisco Chronicle and The Wall Street Journal.

CFP certification requires the completion of a CFP Board-registered program at an accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates must have obtained a bachelor's degree by the time they are ready to become certified.

Starting next year, candidates will be required to complete a capstone class. CFP professionals are also required to complete 30 credit hours of continuing education every two years, with two credit hours required to be in ethics.
