Sometimes Giving Is Better Than Saving

Hopefully, many of you have saved or made some money from the ideas I have presented on this blog. At this point, I'd like to raise awareness for the families of the 22 Navy fighters who recently lost their lives in Afghanistan.

As you know, 17 Navy SEALs and the 5 Naval Special Warfare forces gave their lives serving their country in Afghanistan on Aug. 6. Some of their pictures and stories have been on television the past few days. If you are interested in honoring these men and helping their families, you can visit the The Navy Seal Foundation at http://navysealfoundation.org/ and make a contribution via:

Texting “SEAL” to 90999 to donate $10 to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Donating over the phone by calling (757) 763-5501.

Or making an online gift at https://www.givedirect.org/give/givefrm.asp?CID=4730.

As their Web site states: When a warrior falls, the foundation is prepared to take the burden of cost away from the families and help them with planning. The families will have enough to concern themselves with during this time.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the families of these fallen warriors and Financial Advisor magazine has made a $1,000 contribution to the fund.

Sometimes Giving Is Better Than Saving

Thank you for taking the time to put out the word about our fallen heroes and their families. It goes to show that advisors do care and it is not always about money.

I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and my office in Virginia Beach. It is home to the world's largest naval base and the home base of the Seals who lost their lives. This is the same Team that took part in the Osama Bin Laden mission. Our military community makes up a large portion of our local area. Our community is reminded each day as one of our own does not come home. It warms my heart to know that you are reminding others to give of themselves for those who have given so much to all of us.
